Atlantic Plywood Corporation
Atlantic Plywood Corporation is the leading regional distributor of high quality interior-grade hardwood plywood products, overlay panels and other related interior specialty wood panel products throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Virginia. Atlantic was sold to its employees in an ESOP transaction.
The Company services industrial and commercial accounts including:
- commercial woodworkers
- architectural mill workers
- manufacturers of store fixtures and P-O-P displays
- cabinet and furniture makers
- independent lumber yards
- exhibit booth manufacturers
Durand Equipment & Manufacturing Co.
In 1996, Cornerstone and another private equity fund acquired Durand Equipment & Manufacturing Co. Durand is a manufacturer of aluminum concrete forms and related equipment and supplies. Founded in 1955 as a poured wall contractor, Durand switched to the concrete wall forming equipment and supply business in 1965 and began manufacturing its first aluminum wall forming system in 1976.
Started in 1966, the Company operates from a 60,000 square foot building located in an industrial park in Hainesport, New Jersey. The manufacturing system is highly computerized, and has been designed to achieve a high level of manufacturing economy, both through efficient use of direct labor and minimization of scrap.
Years of research and development led Durand to introduce its patented attached pin system in 1980. Durand is now a leading manufacturer of aluminum wall forms. In 1999, Durand was sold to a financial sponsor.
Shelter Systems Corporation
In 1998, Cornerstone and another equity fund acquired Shelter Systems Inc. as an add-on acquisition to Durand Forms, Inc. Shelter is a New Jersey based manufacturer and distributor of pre-assembled building components used in residential, commercial and industrial construction. The Company's principal products include roof trusses, floor trusses and wall panels which are sold to building contractors. In addition, Shelter's American Housing Technology Division exports pre-packaged kits for building homes in other countries.
Shelter was sold to a financial sponsor with Durand in 1999.
Furniture Technologies, LLC - dba Stanton International
In 2002, Furniture Technologies, LLC acquired the stock of Simple Design Manufacturing, Inc., dba Stanton International. Stanton International ("Stanton" or the "Company") manufactures upholstered furniture in two manufacturing facilities located in Portland, OR and Stockton, CA. It sells sofas, chairs, loveseats and ottomans through independent sales representatives to furniture retailers in the western U.S. and abroad. The main production facility and corporate headquarters are located in Portland, OR. In 2004, Stanton was sold to a financial sponsor.
Farley Windows Holding Co.
In 2001, Farley Windows Holding Co. acquired the stock of Farley Windows Ltd. and Farley Windows U.S.A, Inc. (collectively "Farley" or the "Company"), a vinyl window manufacturer located in Alexandria, Ontario, Canada and Messina, New York. Farley is a producer of medium-to-high end vinyl replacement and new construction windows for sale in the residential markets of Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces and the Eastern Seaboard and Mid-West of the United States. The Company sells to a universe of 450 accounts, including several large retailers. Farley was merged with another Canadian window manufacturer and taken public in 2004 via an Income Trust.
Tidewater Barge Lines, Inc.
In 1996, Cornerstone and another private equity group acquired Tidewater Barge Lines, Inc. Tidewater is the dominant barge transportation line on the Columbia/Snake river system, one of America's most important barge river systems. Tidewater transports approximately 85% of the grain products, 100% of the petroleum products, and 50% of the containers transported on the Columbia/Snake river system. In 2005, Tidewater was sold to a financial sponsor.
